Book Synopsis

When one human stands before an army of impossible obstacles, the likelihood of overcoming them in this coming-of-age modern fairytale may result in war between light and darkness.

Abandoned as an infant in Prague, naive and strong-willed Charlotte Ruzikova was raised by one of the last Vampires left alive. As a human, she knows no other home than the one nestled deep in the woods of Eastern Europe, where Witches drew spells of enchantment, Phasers threw tea parties, and Elves are the closest in kin. Charlotte has lived her life in the dark with her Guardian, content to having him to herself and reveling in his attention, until she's realizes she wants more...

Resident medical doctor and Vampire, Valek Ruzik fears the day his ward would come of age and blossom into a fine woman, and he is forced to confront his own motives as time is of the essence once his past catches up to him, and their lives become endangered...

As genocide and war threatens their secret society, the dictator in power is ready to wipe out Valek's race, but Charlotte will not allow that to happen. Fighting for the only one she's ever loved and truly believed in, she will do whatever it takes to save their love...before the sun comes up and light takes over.

My Review

Over the years there´s been quite a change in the way Vampires are viewed, from the blood thirsty undead, aristocrat sexy killer, Aliens, to the glittery vegetarian type. Vampires have been around for a very long time.
Although the myth started somewhere around the 18th century (I think) and was mostly about men coming out of their grave to feed on the blood of his loved ones, now we face a more sappy description of them.
I have to say that in between is a great place for me, I don’t really like the cruel, evil, bloodsucking, crazed, ugly psycho-vampirenor the sparkly type.
See below for clarification LOL!!!!

Yeah i like my Vampires true to their nature but sexy as hell, hey im still a girl!!!! LMAO
anyway, why did I started this subject?, quite easy actually, cause I found a book that gave me exactly that a cross between Anne Rice and J.R.Ward (without the adult content of course) and I loved every minute of it.
Valek is a Vampire, a real Vampire, the suck your blood until you die, the sun can kill me kinda Vampire. It´s so refreshing to read a Ya book that actually embraced the old dark nature but still manage to capture the romantic and sensual aspect as well.
Charlotte is a human girl, a very naive but strong willed human girl, who was rescued as an infant by Valek and was raised by him in an occult city,(where the supernatural creatures live) she knows what he is and accepts him as such, she even hunts for him bringing people to his door so he can feed. She lives surrounded by supernatural creatures, elves, witches, animated ragdolls; you name it this book has it.
The plot is amazing, fast passed and with twist and turns that leave you glued to the pages, it has action, romance, and angst, has very funny moments too.
Shayne Leighton is very descriptive and manages quite easily to take you in a full out journey through Prague, I swear I could see the city and smell the forest.  I don’t even know how long it took me to read the book all I know is that I did it on one sitting; it´s fantastic, enthralling  and complex too, and please don’t get me started on the villains, OMG that was magnificent. .. (wish I could say more but you know how much I hate spoilers LOL)
Anyway I am quite a fan of Vampire Novels; if it has a Vampire in it most likely I already read it or is on my TBR list; I was growing tired of the more romantic version of the Vamps I love, but this book is amazing, I was delighted with Valek and Lottie and the changes their relationship was going through and appalled by everything that happens to them.
The only thing I wasn´t completely in love with, is the fact that the characters weren’t as developed as they should, but this is Shayne´s Leighton Debut Novel and for a first book is just simply awesome, in fact is so good that is being made a movie.

and here is the Promo Video
(This isn´t part of the movie)

You guys this is a kick ass Woman that wrote a Kick Ass book an knows what she wants in life and is reaching for the stars.
