About the Author:

Krystle Jones was born and raised in the small, southern town of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Reading and writing have been lifelong passions of hers. In addition to being a novelist, she is also an award-winning flutist, and moonlights as a voice actress. Her voice can be heard in the popular online game, Alice is Dead 3.

Goodreads Synopsis:

After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

My Review

I want to thank the mods. at Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Fanatics for the amazing work they do at the R2R (Read to Review).
Thanks to that work ,Indie Authors have a space where they can share their books.
That is the case with The Scarlet Dagger.
We meet Sloane a 17 year old girl, who lost part of her family a year back, in a series of unfortunate events. Her twin Orion is presumed dead, killed by Vampires on hallows eve; she starts a quest that will change her life forever.
This book as a whole has a lot of potential, the plot is good but still has some weak spots here and there, the description of the characters is amazing, but sometimes it doesn´t agrees with what the characters actually do. The side characters are likeable but aren´t explored enough.
The prose is good and the plot is very entertaining and even though the general concept of the book has been done any number of times, Krystle´s has uniqueness.
Other thing I found is that at times the author tells instead of shows information, but this issue can also be fixed and even though it´s somewhat distracting it doesn´t lessen the overall impact of the story.
I loved the fact that Slone isn´t the damsel in distress type, she is certainly able to fend for herself, but still accepts the fact that she can´t do everything on her own. She is a strong character and some of her comeback lines are simply amazing.
Aden is still kind of an unknown to me, he is the male lead on this book, and I feel he could have been developed a little further; but still is quite endearing; he has this kind of man/boy feel to him that is quite catching. Between you and me, sometimes I even drooled a little over him, lol!!!
The best part of this book is the villain, I definitively didn´t see that one coming, the fact that the author managed to go through the story without leaving so much of a hint of who he is, was astonishing.
All in all this is a very interesting book, that just needs a little polishing here and there but it certainly has the basis for an epic series.
