One year ago, two bullets from a .45 caliber pistol ripped away any hopes Dillan had of a future with her fiancé, Jamie. On the anniversary of Jamie’s death, the appearance of his estranged twin brother, Trey, leaves Dillan wondering what other secrets her prefect fiancé was hiding. When Trey learns of his brother’s death, Dillan takes pity on him and gives him a place to stay.

Trey’s erratic behavior and a series of suspicious phone calls lead Dillan to believe that Trey knows more about the circumstances surrounding Jamie’s death than he’s letting on. With all leads exhausted and Jamie’s murderer still on the loose, Trey is Dillan’s last hope for finding the truth.

Sometimes the truth hurts… but in Dillan’s case it could kill her.

I know, you guys want to know who wrote this book right?

Well J.A Howell is an office drone by day, and a writer by night. Her love of writing took off when she was eleven years old and decided to fill a composition notebook with stories to read to her friends. Many years (and notebooks) later, not much has changed. She still loves writing and sharing her works with others. When she isn’t writing, she can often be found trying her hand at whatever artistic pursuit strikes her fancy. J.A. Howell resides in Apopka, FL with her husband and their menagerie of animal children.

Midtown: The  Setting of Mistaken

When I started writing Mistaken, I chose to make up my own place in a real place. The Midtown in Mistaken is in a way generic, but also unique. The name itself is not uncommon. There are plenty of Midtowns all over the US.  While I set this Midtown in Rhode Island, it could really be anywhere within New England.  Midtown is a little big city on the Eastern coast with  rich Irish roots and many untold tales. Mistaken and the next few books all take place here, and while neither story is truly connected, there are tiny threads that tie them together within Midtown.
Midtown is mainly centered around the local University, the school that Dillan and Jamie both attended, so much of the local scene there is still pretty fresh and young. They have a decent art and music scene and a music festival that comes around each year, called MidFest. Seafood is also very popular here and a strong part of their local economy.  It’s a cozy, happening town that is very inviting to the outsider looking for an escape into a new life.  In Mistaken, you don’t see as much of Midtown as you do in Possess, so I thought it would be good to show you a little more of it here.
Living in Florida it feels like everything is spread out, so it didn’t give me too much inspiration. Cities like Philadelphia and Seattle inspired me. Places where it was possible to walk nearly everywhere. Midtown isn’t nearly as big as either one of those, but it still has a decent foot print.   As with any college town, Midtown has several different bars and pubs, but the most popular of them is Finley’s. Despite some bad press years ago, it still is going strong . Through out their relationship, Dillan and Jamie spent many evenings there drinking beer and eating things like fish and chips or bangers and mash.  In Possess, much of the story takes place around Finley’s.
Finally,  my favorite aspect of Midtown is the fact that when you want to escape they city, it isn’t that hard. Much like where I live now, you’re just on the edge . Everything you need is within reach, but when you want to escape it all it only takes a good 30-40 minutes to find yourself in the middle of nowhere.  Everyone needs to escape all the noise sometimes.
